2nd edition of the “Focus on Textile Regions” <Wool>
VR (Virtual Reality) Experience of Bishu’s Master Craftsmanship Mills

Japan’s unparalleled textile quality is rooted in the formation of regional production areas, each of which has inherited and developed its own traditions and strengths. Building on this, TTS highlights the unique appeal of these regions. The first edition spotlighted Japan’s globally acclaimed denim.
This project was showcased at Milano Unica in July and Première Vision in September, receiving high acclaim from overseas buyers. As TTS, we aim to develop this initiative as a series and promote it widely, with the purpose of highlighting the appeal of Japanese craftsmanship to the world and fostering the global dissemination of Japanese textiles.

In recent years, the apparel industry has increasingly demanded short production and sales cycles, drastically reducing opportunities for designers to visit production regions and spend time on product development. In this more globalised context, understanding world-class textile production techniques and engaging directly in manufacturing is extremely important. Even young designers and students who have never visited production regions can gain valuable insights into the high level of Japanese textile manufacturing by experiencing various production sites virtually. For producers, it also provides an opportunity to learn about the characteristics of other regions. Such experiences can lead to discoveries that serve as a stepping stone for inter-regional collaboration, leveraging the unique strengths of each production area.
TTS’s “Focus on Textile Regions” is therefore a key project, serving as a starting point for human resource development and inter-industry collaboration.

The second edition highlights wool, offering a VR (Virtual Reality) experience of the craftsmanship-driven mills in Bishu, where visitors can explore and learn about the production and development process in an immersive way. The dynamic footage begins with an aerial view of the Bishu production area and then moves closer to each stage of the process--spinning, dyeing, weaving, finishing--following the journey of wool as it is transformed into fabric and eventually into products.
